Flip Flops

I don't need to tell you how much I hate the whole flip-flop thing that women have come down with lately (and by "lately", I apparently mean "more than 4 years now"  what is wrong with you people?).  But it's nice to see Mimi jump on board the Flip-flop Haters Express.

Not to mention that always-in-a-hurry me will probably step on your plastic flip-flop footwear at some point! I’m a clumsy bitch, that's what I am. Just ask the tranny-looking crackhead.

Flip-flop people, it's your funeral. Which I will attend, wearing proper shoes. That is all.

But she forgot "They make you walk like a dork."

"the astounding Mab" is my friend Meagan who I have not seen in many years.  So perhaps I will make it after all.  Points against: Having to cab there and back, and the 9pm start time, which means it will cut into my beauty sleep.  Points for: The Beautiful Bridgy, MelJoy (who looks beautiful today) and Mab...

Yay

Stephen Fry has a blog.  You know what to do.

Manassas Park

After reading Radley Balko's stories about what is going on with the Rack 'n Roll poolhall in Manassas Park, I actually had to google it to make sure that it is, in fact, right down 66 from me and not in some podunk state like Indiana.

Today he dropped a bombshell.

To its credit, the planning commission suspended the hearing so it could investigate the charges against Brendel. Incredibly, city attorney Crowhurst claimed that the fact that the city's own vice mayor was responsible for the lewd conduct doesn't matter for purposes of shutting down Rack 'n' Roll. All that matters, he argued, is that the conduct took place at the pool hall.

Curiouser and curiouser.

What's Going On?

In no particular order:

  • A car accident!  Somebody rear-ended me on my way to work a couple of weeks ago.  Nobody was hurt, but my jeep's exhaust system was a little worse for the incident.  Her front end was a mess.  My first accident in about a billion years.
  • I don't have cancer!  At least, not that I know of.  I'm still not sure what I have, but it's not cancer.  I went in for a CT scan last week.  Should hopefully get the results soon.  Sighofrelief.
  • RennFaire is back.  I expect far fewer visits this season for ex-girlfriend avoiding reasons.
  • Megan is now at The Atlantic and thinks that her readers are ugly.  Even the smallest sampling of the trolls that post comments on her blog confirms that they are indeed quite ugly.  My readers, however, are the Most Strikingly Attractive people ever.
  • Evi is still the cutest ever.  No new photos for you, you'll have to take my word for it.
  • Reason happy hour next Tuesday at the fairly smoker friendly Big Hunt.  I'll give it a maybe.
  • Clinton Portis made it through the preseason without getting injured.  Of course this is because he didn't play in any preseason games, or practice much, for that matter.  Some teammates are reportedly less than gruntled about that.  I think that so long as he doesn't come out of the gates fumbling every other carry, all will be forgiven.
  • The Redskin's first round pick this year was safety Laron Landry.  Here is a Youtube video of some of his more popular gardening highlights.  Mostly he's just planting quarterbacks.  I'm sure if you watered those spots well in the offseason, you'll find little quarterbacks sprouting in the spring.
  • Yes, this is the absolute BEST time of the year to be a Redskins fan -- right before the season actually starts.  Only then can we maintain hopes of a good season.  Reality soon rears it's ugly head, and we have to start looking forward to draft day again.
  • Reading: I know, I need to update the reading lists.  Right now I'm almost finished with Marvin Minsky's Society of Mind.  When I am finished, I will reread it, because there is so much good stuff in there that I'm sure that some of it has eluded me because I am not nearly as smart as Marvin.
  • Writing: Not so much.  But.  Aforementioned Society of Mind has provided a lot of useful material in thinking about Artificial Intelligence.
  • Work: Yes, unfortunately.  I am at least doing some mildly interesting things from time to time.  Most recently, writing vbscripts to provide custom tasks for the User Management MMC.  It's more complicated than it needs to be, but there's still a lot you can do with taskpad views.  I may post some of that geekery later.
  • Bowling: Starts next week.  I'm pretty excited about that.
  • Party: Not sure.  I gave away my bar when I was getting the house ready for market.  It went to a good home where they throw great parties so I'm sure he's not sad and lonely.  But I still need to go out and get a new one.  They're expensive.  I'm broke.  Plus, speakers.
